Job Requisition #154528
Vanguard's Institutional Marketing Department helps our partners in the Institutional Investor Group tell clients and prospects about our investment products, advice services, and financial wellness tools. Our writers help explain how and why Vanguard is different from other companies serving sponsors of retirement plans and other institutional investors. We’re looking for a senior investment writer who’s comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity and can bring a strategic focus to the content and marketing tactics needed to create awareness and deepen engagement with our clients and others.
Our senior investment writers may spend the bulk of their time writing content but add crucial value in helping their project partners focus beyond the immediate needs of each campaign, event, or deliverable. They possess consummate writing skills and translate even the most difficult financial and investing concepts into positioning and content that resonates with our audiences.
You’ll work on a wide variety of projects, including:
-
Commentaries and blog posts from Vanguard experts, including senior leaders as well as those with deep knowledge about our investment products and services.
-
Optimized webpages that serve as hubs to drive engagement with clients and prospects.
-
Scripts and speeches for senior leaders participating in virtual and in-person events.
-
Internal positioning on a variety of topics that can serve as the basis for the creation of external marketing materials.
-
Message houses and copy for digital advertising campaigns over a variety of channels that spur readers to interact with other content on our website.
-
Client-focused newsletters and email journeys to support demand generation or account-based marketing efforts.
-
Storyboards and scripts for videos and demos that deliver engaging experiences.
-
Brochures and other promotional materials that deliver information clients can put into action.
-
Narratives for core slide decks and pitch books that support products and services, including target-date funds, active fixed income funds, and advice services.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
1. Inspiration. You bring a client-first mindset as you articulate how we might deliver engaging content that solves a business need. You're comfortable championing ideas to peers, senior leaders, and others in the organization.
2. Acumen. You use content best practices, clear writing, appropriate voice and tone, and brand consistency to create foundational content. You help your project team develop strategy and positioning to activate marketing tactics. Possessing significant investment acumen and a background in financial services or other highly regulated industries, with experience at an advertising agency or in a corporate setting will stand out.
3. Accountability. You express a combination of curiosity and persistence to follow up on questions and issues to elicit clear and decisive answers. With grace under deadline pressure, you demonstrate flexibility when adapting to changes and gaining buy-in from business stakeholders.
4. Collaboration. You work closely with team members to create content that is memorable and valuable for our target audiences as well as compliant with FINRA and Vanguard standards. You reach across other groups to amplify the business impact of your team’s work.
5. Consistency. You bring a reliable, steady approach to the execution of your projects. You cultivate relationships with other teams across the organization to ensure we stay on message and on schedule.
Please attach at least three writing samples or link to digital portfolio with application.
Core Responsibilities
1. Creates in-depth, compelling communications and positioning on a range of subjects, including Vanguard funds, products, and services; financial markets; the economy; regulatory matters; portfolio construction and theory, and internal communication topics.
2. Displays versatility in producing clear communications through a wide range of styles and channels, including responsive web pages, campaigns, ads, emails, presentations, blogs, videos, letters, articles, videos, and social media channels.
