The Institutional Investor Group (IIG) plays a central role in accelerating Vanguard’s mission to give individuals the best chance for investment success. To create a best-in-class retirement offer and experiences, we must drive continuous improvement of our technology to enable seamless client experiences. A key component to reaching this vision will be to modernize our retirement division’s systems and web experiences.
IIG Technology Team is looking for a Technical Leader with a bias for action who has strong analytical, relationship management and communication skills. This leader will partner heavily with Vanguard senior leadership to help reach our vision to provide our clients with the best chance for success.
Core Responsibilities
- Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Manages multi-year, cross-divisional technology-related programs. Drives all phases of the program lifecycle from inception through implementation while ensuring that business objectives are delivered with high quality and within targeted timeframes.
- Creates and maintains a multi-year program strategy that clearly identifies specific actions and tasks needed to achieve future state goals. Drives communication to many different audiences within Vanguard on the overall goals and outcomes of the program.
- Builds and maintains strategic relationships across sites, departments, divisions, and internal and external partners to support their program initiatives. Develops strong relationships with program leadership, sponsors, and workstream leads.
- Holds responsibility over technology program budget, monitoring cost variances, and forecasting and allocating program costs. Ensures all steps are taken to mitigate risk and maintains control, compliance, audit, and legal requirements.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten years of related business experience, with at least six years of technical project management experience. Previous people-leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Undergraduate degree in related field (Computer Science, Engineering) required. Graduate degree preferred.
