Build process excellence with strategic vision

As the Head of Sales Operations, you’ll spearhead a team to drive process excellence and operational efficiency within Financial Advisor Services (FAS), the largest of our Sales Strategy and Enablement branches.

You’ll lead with strategic direction, basing your visions on your broad and deep knowledge of the mutual fund industry, trends, and competitive landscape. Partnering with sales leaders and peers who craft the strategic vision, you’ll work to evolve and elevate operational capabilities within the department. A client-centric focus and ability to easily partner across divisions helps you ensure FAS provides an extraordinary full-service sales client experience for one of our largest and most profitable divisions. The FAS Division has $2Trilliion in assets and works with many of the largest financial institutions across all intermediary channels including Broker Dealers, Banks, Registered Investment Advisors, and Insurance companies.

In this role you will

  • Establish a Process Excellence function that will drive operational efficiencies in the organization through experimentation, process improvement, waste elimination, and documentation practices.
  • Partner with Data teams, Information Technology and various vendors to enable the Sales organization to effectively manage business operations through automated, timely and insightful sales reporting.
  • Manage a group of Project Managers the help the FAS organization successfully mobilize and deliver valuable projects and initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage the payment process of various external relationships including with partner organizations and co-marketing budget.
  • Drive the strategy and execution of Sales communication to ensure sales resources efficiently receive the necessary information to help them successfully carry out their responsibilities.
  • Work with partners across Vanguard to develop the internal event strategy and oversee the process for executing the Sales conference and regional off-sites.
  • Oversee the Request for Information team to ensure timely and successful completion of RFI responses to sales opportunities.
  • Develop and lead staff, building a strong team atmosphere. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and provide mentorship, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff to help them reach their full potential.
  • Partner with senior leaders and stakeholders from Sales, Information Technology, Marketing, Analytics, Legal, Data and other parts of the Vanguard organization to help shape the overall direction of the organization and appropriately align the functions within FAS Sales Operations organization with the division’s goal and direction.
  • Be an active advocate and voice for Sales Strategy and Operations within the FAS organization and across the enterprise. Participate on or chair various types of governance committees. Effectively communicate and deliver presentations to executive audiences.

What it takes

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience. Five years’ experience in sales operations preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to: quickly develop a command of new concepts, including big data/data analytics/business intelligence, marketing measurement/ROI; complete multiple and diverse assignments with the highest level of accuracy and quality.
  • Demonstrated skills in people leadership, critical thinking, and project management and prioritizing work.
  • Successfully manage a diverse group of professionals and skilled at working through others along with experience in building and leading teams.
  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate successfully up, down and sideways in the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills to senior management.
  • The ability to work in an ad-hoc/dynamic and fast-paced environment with frequent time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent influencing, facilitation, and partnering skills.
