As a Corporate Accounting Manager you will manage accounting staff who are responsible for the production of domestic and international corporate accounting operations including month end close processes and effective internal controls. Your team will ensure compliance of financial information in accordance with US and International Accounting Standards. Given the scope of impact, the role partners closely with FP&A, Corporate Financial Reporting, as well as various international partners. Are you ready to make a difference?

In this role you will:

  • Manage staff. Provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hire, evaluate and counsel personnel. Follow corporate disciplinary procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Set performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback and recommends wage increases in accordance with the applicable HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage a full range of monthly accounting responsibilities for assigned legal entities, divisions and/or functional areas, including review and approval of accountants work ensuring the proper recording of financial activities in accordance with U.S. and international accounting and reporting standards, statutory reporting requirements and Corporate policies. Provides financial expertise and leadership in coordinating and managing the financial closing process.
  • Recommend, design and implement internal control procedures that ensure proper recording of financial positions and prevents material errors in accounting records. Manage process changes to improve accuracy, consistency and efficiency. Documents all modifications and communicates to management and to the appropriate clients.
  • Build and develop strong working relationships both locally and globally to optimize efficiency of accounting processes.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of legal and accounting relationships between The Vanguard Group, Inc., subsidiaries and The Vanguard Group of Mutual Funds. Develop and maintain an understanding of external financial reporting and disclosure requirements to ensure proper recording of business activities.
  • Work with external auditors during the annual financial statement audit. Answers all auditor inquiries related to complex accounting topics.
  • Oversee complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and broader finance team(s) and/or with other areas of the company. Ensure all modifications are fully documented and communicate to management and to the appropriate clients.
  • Create, update and present accounting training to accounting staff and management.

What it takes:

  • Undergraduate degree (in accounting or finance). CPA, and MS/MBA highly preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years overall experience in an accounting and financial reporting environment.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Accounting Standards (IAS).
  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of financial and operational controls.
  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners and clients.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
