The Application Engineer Technology Program offers enhanced technical upskilling for entry-level engineers during their first year at Vanguard. This includes tailored programming that cultivates community, boosts technical knowledge and expertise, and provides a path for career development. The program also provides an immersive experience, where you’ll work on modernized cloud-based applications and platforms and learn the foundation of Vanguard’s technologies and processes.

Accelerated Career Development Program (ACDP)

The Accelerated Career Development Program (ACDP) seeks to attract high-potential talent and provide rigorous, hands-on development through real-world experience, mentorship, and targeted training. Participants rotate across the enterprise to build specialized project management, sales, or technical skills while strengthening leadership capabilities to prepare for future specialist and leadership roles in an evolving business environment.
Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience through various roles across the enterprise over a 24-month period. Rotation examples may include:

Project Management pathway

This pathway focuses on building project management skills, including stakeholder management, conceptual thinking, and effective communication.

  • Rotation 1: Client Representative.
  • Rotations 2 & 3: Program or Project Manager.
  • Rotation 4: Aligned career interest.
Product Specialist pathway

This pathway focuses on developing analytical and technical skills, strengthening participants’ acumen in technology or investment-related products.

  • Rotation 1: Client Representative.
  • Rotations 2 & 3: Product or Investment Analyst.
  • Rotation 4: Aligned career interest.
Sales pathway

This pathway focuses on developing sales skills, including relationship management, influence, and persuasion techniques.

  • Rotation 1: Client Representative.
  • Rotations 2 & 3: Internal Sales or Client Consultant.
  • Rotation 4: Aligned career interest.

Please note the pathway rotations above are intended to provide examples and are not all-encompassing. Upon completion of the rotations, participants will work with their ACDP leader to identify the best opportunities based on aligned pathway, personal strengths, and aspirations for launch into a full-time position. They are also paired with a senior leader mentor for at least one year following completion of the program.

Acceleration into Financial Professional (AFP) Program

The Acceleration into Financial Professional (AFP) Program seeks to attract talent who have a true passion for finance and to immerse crew in experiences that will help prepare them to serve as future financial professionals and leaders at Vanguard.
Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience across a range of roles within the Finance division over a 24-month period, with exposure to the following areas:

  • Risk & Reporting.
  • Financial Analysis.
  • Investment Operations & Oversight.
  • Malvern, PA.

Graduates with a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics, business, or data & analytics. We are also open to other majors if candidate demonstrates aptitude.

Late August through early September

Financial Advisor Development Program (FADP)

The Vanguard Financial Advisor Development Program (FADP) is designed to attract, develop, and retain financial advisors for Vanguard’s advice services. Through the program, crew build the skills critical to success as a financial advisor while receiving direct mentorship from experienced CFP® professionals and gaining hands-on experience supporting clients through personalized financial planning and investment guidance.
Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience through various roles across the Personal Investor division over a 30-month period. Rotation examples include:

  • Rotation 1: Advisor Support Group.
  • Rotation 2: Personal Wealth Sales Group.
  • Rotation 3: Mass Affluent Advice.
  • Rotation 4: High Net Worth Advice.

Upon completion of the rotations, participants will launch into a promotional position in Vanguard’s High Net Worth Advice Group.

Graduates from a CFP Board-registered financial planning program.

Investment Management Development Program (IMDP)

The Investment Management Development Program (IMDP) seeks to attract talent and offer crew exposure to Vanguard’s portfolio management methodology, investment research and analytics, product strategy, and risk management practices—ultimately to serve as future investment professionals and leaders for Vanguard.

Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience through various roles across four different investment functions over a 24-month period. Rotation examples include:

  • Rotation 1: Investment Strategy Group or Portfolio Review Department.
  • Rotation 2: Vanguard Capital Management, Fixed Income Trading.
  • Rotation 3: Vanguard Portfolio Management, Active or Passive Equity Trading.
  • Rotation 4: Investment Management & Finance Risk.

During rotations 3 and 4, participants will work with their IMDP leader to select a career path that aligns with their personal strengths and aspirations.

Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in any major. Previous participants have earned a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics, or computer science, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Participation in extracurriculars that demonstrate leadership and a strong passion for investments, markets, and asset management is a plus.

MBA Development Program

The MBA Development Program seeks to attract diverse top talent from targeted business schools by offering compelling and rigorous development. The program aims to accelerate crew readiness to assume broader leadership roles in an increasingly complex environment and develop talent who meet the evolving needs of the business.

Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience through various roles across the enterprise over a 15-month period. Rotation examples include:

  • Rotation 1: Retail Investment Product Enablement.
  • Rotation 2: Portfolio Review Department.
  • Rotation 3: Business Unit Strategy.

Upon completion of the rotations, participants will work with their leader to identify the best opportunities based on personal strengths and aspirations for launch into a full-time position.

Recent MBA Graduates with a minimum of 5–8 years of related work experience and demonstrated strengths in one or more of the following areas: strategy, consulting, business analysis, investment management, product management, and leadership.

Technology Leadership Program (TLP)

The Technology Leadership Program (TLP) seeks to attract talent and help crew build a strong technical foundation, business acumen, and leadership skills while gaining hands-on experience in the Information Technology division and Data & Analytics teams. The program offers insights into how technology and data drive innovation, enable personalized client experiences, scale advice, optimize operations, reduce risk and an understanding of Vanguard’s systems, products, and services.

Program participants will have the opportunity to build experience through various roles across the Information Technology division and Data & Analytics teams over a 24-month period. Rotation examples include:

Application Development track

Gain exposure to technologies across a digital ecosystem, including front-end, backend, full-stack, mobile development, and more.

  • Rotation 1: Full Stack Application Engineer.
  • Rotation 2: Cloud Platform Engineer.
  • Rotation 3: Data Engineer.

Key skills: Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, React; experience in front-end, back-end and full-stack development, as well as cloud engineering and API development; ability to translate insights into action and influence decision making.

Data Analysis track

Learn to create data visuals, perform advanced analytics, streamline reports, and more through hands-on data analysis work.

  • Rotation 1: Product & Distribution Marketing Data Analyst.
  • Rotation 2: Client Experience Data Analyst.
  • Rotation 3: Digital Data Analyst.

Key skills: Python, SQL, Excel, data visualization and storytelling, experience developing insights through dashboards, automation, and statistical analysis with the ability to translate insights into action and influence decision-making.

Data Science & AI track

Experience hands-on data science work such as developing complex models, evaluating and optimizing model performance, influencing business insights, and more. Graduate studies required.

  • Rotation 1: Global Risk & Security Lab Data Scientist.
  • Rotation 2: Human Resources D&A Data Scientist.
  • Rotation 3: Advice & Wealth Management AI/ML Data Scientist.

Key skills: Python, SQL, AWS, Git; experience in machine learning, data visualization, and AI-driven solutions with strong stakeholder communication skills that showcase the ability to translate advanced analytics into actionable insights that influence decision-making.

Investment Systems track

Gain exposure to investment and financial systems, supporting our Finance and Investment Management Group divisions, including work such as front-office, middle-office, and back-office data management engineering.

  • Rotation 1: ETF Management Application Engineer.
  • Rotation 2: Securities Lending Application Engineer.
  • Rotation 3: Index Data Engineer.

Key skills: Python, Java, Node.js, AWS; understanding of investment concepts and systems, with interest in building technology solutions that support financial data and workflows.

Risk & Security Analyst track

Track offering exposure to risk analysis across areas like threat intelligence, vulnerability management, and cyber programming.

  • Rotation 1: Identity and Access Management Systems Analyst.
  • Rotation 2: Cyberthreat Intelligence Analyst.
  • Rotation 3: Security Operations Center Analyst.

Key skills: Cybersecurity fundamentals; familiarity with risk and control frameworks; exposure to SIEM tools, vulnerability management and operating systems (Windows, Linux).

Risk & Security Engineer track

Learn software development and cybersecurity with hands-on experience in cloud security and secure infrastructure.

  • Rotation 1: Identity and Access Management Engineer.
  • Rotation 2: Fraud Engineer.
  • Rotation 3: Security Assurance Engineer.

Key skills: Python, Java, PowerShell, SQL, AWS; exposure to secure software development and system hardening—including vulnerability management, operating systems (Windows, Linus), and security tools such as SIEM.

Technology Operations track

Experience network engineering, cloud operations, and DevOps with hands-on learning in enterprise systems, automation tools, and operational resilience.

  • Rotation 1: End User Support Analyst.
  • Rotation 2: Cloud Engineer.
  • Rotation 3: DevOps Engineer.

Key skills: Hardware troubleshooting; cloud and network fundamentals; exposure to infrastructure, system performance, and operational support.

Upon successful completion of program requirements, participants will work with their TLP leader to identify the best opportunities based on personal strengths and aspirations for launch into a full-time position.
