Vanguard's Portfolio Risk Department (US/Enterprise) ESG team is hiring an ESG Investment Product Specialist! This is an opportunity to join a small, dynamic team working in a rapidly evolving environmental, social, and governance (ESG)/sustainable investing landscape. Our team identifies and addresses strategic ESG opportunities and risks related to investment products, processes, and perspectives, serving clients regionally while maintaining a global risk orientation. We partner closely with colleagues throughout the Portfolio Review Department, focused on our funds, managers, and product ecosystem, and with stakeholders across the enterprise.
More about the role: The ESG Specialist will provide ESG expertise in support of Vanguard's strategy, clients, products, and crew. The specialist will work closely with PRD colleagues and partner functions to enhance Vanguard’s approach to ESG-related enterprise risk and strategy topics and emerging market themes. In collaboration with team members, this role will also drive enhancements to the ESG product ecosystem, such as reporting, data analytics, and positioning. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in one or more elements of ESG investing, such as sustainability reporting, ESG data, evolving regulations, impact measurement, and/or climate finance.
A Investment Product Specialist will:

Lead complex, cross-category strategic projects, typically in support of the ESG Risk & Strategy Oversight Committee, comprised of cross-functional senior leaders. This involves project and stakeholder management, including defining project scope and requirements, establishing timelines, managing cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables are completed, and presenting findings and recommendations. Over time this may include leading TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) reporting and the PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment) signatory report.

Lead internal and external engagements, leveraging strong business partner relationships with OGC, client groups, Risk, Corporate Communications, and others.

Foster team’s and partners’ ESG acumen by identifying external insights and their relevance to Vanguard.

Analyze the ESG competitive environment and contribute to evolving our ESG product strategy and strategic vision. This requires staying current on industry, market, product, and competitive trends in the US and globally.
An ideal candidate will have:

Investment acumen and ESG acumen, or a strong interest in developing expertise and climbing the learning curve quickly.

Strong analytical skills: ability to synthesize complex fact patterns (qualitative and quantitative) and viewpoints to develop recommendations.

Strong communications skills, across memos, PowerPoint presentations, and in conversation with colleagues of all levels.

Project management: can effectively prioritize across multiple bodies of work

Comfort with ambiguity and complexity: can drive results in a dynamic environment and are energized by a dynamic body of proactive and reactive work

Builds relationships with people at all levels with ease and comfort, and manages stakeholders by understanding and effectively aligning the perspectives of diverse functions.

Five to eight years related work experience, including five years experience in the investment industry.

Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

CFA (or working towards) is a plus, not a requirement.
This is a hybrid role with Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in the office and Monday and Friday are remote.
